The numbers behind the work
Not every engine is worth reconditioning. Where the damage is severe, fitting a brand new engine is usually quicker, more reliable and better value than trying to rebuild what is left.
This is especially true on the modern diesels and small petrol engines that use a belt running in oil. When that belt breaks down, debris circulates through the engine and starves it of oil pressure. By the time the damage shows itself, the internal wear is often extensive enough that a new engine makes far more sense than repairing the old one. It is the single most common reason vehicles arrive with us for a replacement.
Common signs you are looking at a replacement rather than a repair include a knocking or rattling bottom end, oil pressure warnings, an engine that has run dry of oil, a snapped or shredded belt, or a diagnosis of internal damage after a belt failure.

The engines we replace most
These are the engines we fit week in, week out, for drivers and businesses across the Midlands. If your vehicle is on this list we can give you a price today, and we have almost certainly done the exact job before.
Transit and Transit Custom, front and rear wheel drive, plus Ranger, Focus, Kuga, Mondeo, S-Max, Galaxy and Edge. The current VW Transporter shares the same engine and platform, so we cover that too. This is the engine we replace more than any other. Belt-in-oil failure on the EcoBlue is a well known problem, and once it has done its damage a new engine is usually the sensible route.
Peugeot Boxer and Citroen Relay, plus the wider PSA range including Expert, Traveller, Dispatch, Vivaro, Scudo and Proace. The workhorse vans of the trade, working hard and covering serious mileage. When one of these engines goes, it tends to go properly, and a new unit puts the van back on the road for years rather than months.
Fiesta, Focus and Puma. The small petrol EcoBoost runs its belt in oil, and when that belt starts to break down the debris does serious damage very quickly. If your belt has failed, or you have been told the engine has gone, this is a job we handle regularly and can price for you the same day.

When you are quoted for an engine replacement, it is worth knowing exactly what you are being sold.
We fit brand new engines, supplied direct from the manufacturer. That means no mileage, no unknown history, and an engine that gives your vehicle a genuine fresh start, covered by warranty.
A used engine can look cheaper on the invoice, but its condition and history are impossible to verify. A new engine costs a little more up front and, over the life of the vehicle, usually proves the better value by some distance.

On the engines listed above, yes. Because we fit them constantly we can give a clear supplied-and-fitted price rather than an open-ended estimate. Anything outside the list gets a straightforward quote.
Yes. The prices shown are supplied and fitted. The only thing that changes the figure is if we find further damage once the old engine is out, and we will always speak to you before doing any additional work.
Sometimes, and where reconditioning your existing engine is the better answer we will say so, since we do that work too. But where the damage is extensive, a new engine is usually better value over the life of the vehicle and comes without the unknowns.
Often, yes. When a belt running in oil breaks down, the debris circulates and starves the engine of oil pressure, and the wear that follows is usually too extensive to repair economically. We will assess it and tell you honestly whether a replacement or a repair makes more sense.
Yes. The current Transporter shares its engine and platform with the Ford Transit Custom, so the 2.0 EcoBlue work we do on Transits applies to it as well.

It depends on the vehicle and engine availability, but because these are jobs we do regularly we can usually give you a firm timescale up front rather than a vague window.
Our workshop is in Aston, Birmingham, and vehicles come to us for engine replacement from right across the Midlands. As well as Birmingham and the Black Country, we regularly work with drivers and businesses from Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley, Solihull, Coventry, Staffordshire and Worcestershire. If you are further out and the job is worth the trip, it is usually still worth a call.
Most engine replacements are carried out at our Aston workshop, where we have everything on hand to do the job properly.
